11 Super Shreddy Pork Shoulder Recipes

Like many people, I’ve given a lot of thought to what I’d like my last meal on earth to be. I’ve always required a skillet of baked macaroni and cheese, made with a trio of Gruyere, cheddar, and Swiss and topped with golden brown breadcrumbs. But over the years, I’ve tweaked what I’d like alongside my mac. Sometimes it’s been butter-poached lobster, other times it’s been pulled pork, and sometimes it’s just more mac & cheese. Currently, I stand by a plate consisting of half pulled pork and half mac & cheese. But the good news is that’s just my last meal on earth. I firmly believe that one day, I’ll find myself in hog heaven and I can rest easy. Read More >> from Food52 https://ift.tt/WCE3XaIdf via IFTTT

Your New Cookbook Might Be at the Bottom of the Ocean

Last year, Americans learned to get used to the long delays from backed up ports and that time a ship wedged itself into the Suez Canal for a week , but this year brought a different challenge for a few cookbook authors when an accident knocked the containers carrying their new releases into the middle of the Atlantic. The first copies of Turkey and the Wolf: Flavor Trippin' in New Orleans by Mason Hereford and Dinner in One by Melissa Clark were on the Madrid Bridge when the ship got caught in a storm south of the Azores on Jan. 7 and lost 65 containers , with 89 more damaged. Do I Need to Store Grapes in the Fridge?

When you want a refreshing snack, grab a bunch of grapes. When you need to dress up a cheese board with something full and fancy, grab a bunch of grapes. When you’re staging your house and need to fill a fruit bowl on your kitchen island because that’s what the Property Brothers do, grab a bunch of grapes. Needless to say, table grapes are always good to have on hand. But what’s the best way to store grapes so that they stay plump and are ready to eat at a moment’s notice? Pick up a big bunch of grapes—red or green, seedless or not—from the grocery store and you’ll find that they generally come in a perforated plastic bag. Handy for toting in and out of your cart? Yes. Despite the fact that grapes are often displayed on tiered shelves, or in a big basket, they should be refrigerated in the crisper drawer to extend their shelf life. You can keep the grapes in the original plastic packaging or ditch it if you happen to own a fancy porcelain fruit ...

If I'm Vegan, Can I Eat Honey?

Mix honey with a cup of hot black tea and a lemon wedge for an instant throat relief. Or drizzle over crostini with ricotta and figs. Or toss baby back ribs in a combination of honey and hoisin sauce for a sticky-sweet meal. Needless to say, there’s a lot that you can do with honey—but do vegans eat honey? Vegans have different opinions about what animal products they are comfortable consuming or wearing, but as a rule of thumb, veganism means eschewing anything that is an animal byproduct. So in short, no, honey is not vegan. But in order to really understand why most vegans don’t eat honey, you have to understand how it’s made. Like, really bad. I’ve tried a handful of times over the years without success, always distracted by a noise or a thought or a to-do list that I can’t seem to shake. Some would argue that these distractions are exactly why I should keep at it, but I’ve found my own solution for finding a moment of calm: cooking. The rhythmic rocking of my knife on the cutting board, the steam wafting towards my face as I stir the mirepoix, the gentle ticking of the kitchen timer—these things bring me calm like no amount of sitting-in-place...
